#jusplacement is a blog published by the University of Sheffield’s Department of Journalism Studies.
Our students undertake work placements to try out and sharpen up the skills and knowledge they develop through their degree courses. These placements are also a great way for them to start building their professional networks in the media and communications industries. All this contributes to the excellent track record of career success enjoyed by our graduates.
The students tweet about these work experiences using hashtag #jusplacement – and blog about them on this site.
To make sure their work experience will be rewarding and meaningful, our dedicated work placement co-ordinator Patricia Mellars visits participating employers and individually matches them with students.
Employers who have recently provided work placements for our students include Press Association, BBC Sport, Daily Mail, ITV Calendar, The One Show, Norwich Evening News, Yorkshire Post, ESPN, Manchester Evening News, ITV News Central, HR Media, BBC Radio 4, Channel 5 News, talkSPORT, Gay Times, BBC Good Food magazine, BBC Radio Sheffield, Channel 4, The Guardian, Radio Times and Liverpool Echo.
Sheffield is independently rated as the UK’s number 1 university for studying journalism and media – by the Complete University Guide for 2020 and The Guardian university league tables for 2019 and 2018. Want to see journalism’s bigger picture? Study with us.
